RenoMark renovators™Use a RenoMark Renovator
According to a study prepared for the Government of Ontario in 2001, as much as 56 percent of all home renovation work, 67 percent of repair work, and 15 percent of new housing construction is being undertaken by those operating in the underground economy in Ontario alone. With new home prices on the rise in 2007, many residents who currently own homes will choose to stay put and renovate their investment. With more and more people choosing to renovate, the Durham Region Home Builders' Association has been investigating ways to encourage renovation companies to meet industry standards for workmanship and customer service. And that's when they envisioned the new RenoMark® program for Durham Region which was adopted from the Greater Toronto Home Builders' Association. At the CHBA national conference in Quebec in February, the RenoMark® initiative was approved to become a national program. Local Associations are encouraged to opt into the initiative by adopting their own resolutions specifying that their renovator members undertake to abide by the terms of the RenoMark® agreement. Experienced, professional renovators are important to find and identify. The RenoMark® program provides consumers with a great place to start their search for a professional renovator. The goal of the program is to differentiate professional renovator members from non-member renovators and inspire consumer confidence. A RenoMark® renovator promises to abide by a strict Code of Ethics which includes returning phone calls within two business days; offering a minimum two year warranty on all work (excluding minor home repair); carrying a minimum of $2 million liability insurance; having WSIB where required and/or work only with subcontractors who carry WSIB; carrying applicable licenses; providing a detailed, written contract/scope of work for all jobs; and maintaining a professional level of knowledge of current building codes, permit procedures, and technical skills through continuing education. All of our renovator members will be sent a RenoMark® package in the coming weeks outlining the program and its complete requirements. We hope you will consider joining this new and innovative program. RenoMark® is the professional renovator's mark of excellence. It will enhance the image of the industry and bring reassurance to your clients.
