I am honoured and excited to be DRHBA's 2019-2020 president. I am taking the leadership reins right at a time of change, not only for our Region, but also for our Association.
Under the direction of our past-president, Emidio DiPalo, the Association has embarked down a path of change, finding ways to make our Association bigger and better for our members.
We have seen a seminar series added to our events roster, providing opportunities for our members to learn valuable information to help their businesses succeed, and our member events are consistently setting the bar for incredible networking opportunities and just a fun night out with others in the industry.
The Association has really started to shine with our advocacy work, and we have strengthened our relationships with city and regional officials to find ways to make building more efficient and affordable.
My goals this year are to press on and to further encourage change for the better. We are going to embrace new technologies to help us communicate more effectively; we are going to listen to our members and use their feedback to make sure our Association is working for them; we are going to be open and transparent with our processes and policies; we are going to become the premiere Association in the area for our advocacy work and the Association that politicians, city officials, builders and others in the industry turn to for information, advice and help; we are going to grow our ranks to ensure that our voice is heard loud and clear at all levels of government; and we are going to make sure that our members fully realize the benefits to membership.
I have a great board this year that is ready to work towards achieving all of our goals. We have directors from all aspects of the building industry, including builders, developers, renovators, engineers, architects, suppliers and trade contractors. Each director brings their own unique knowledge and experience to the table, providing insight and perspective to issues in the industry. We have given our committees the power and responsibility to make decisions and work on behalf of the Association. These committees are not just populated by directors; members are welcome and encouraged to join as well. It's a great way to get involved and make sure that your voice is heard. To learn more about our committees or to join, contact Stacey at email@example.com.
We now have two full-time staff members, allowing us to better address the needs of our members. This gives us the resources to stay on top of the issues that are affecting our industry, while still providing the top-tier events our members have come to expect from our Association.
Durham Region is primed for growth and the Association is ready to grow right along with it. I am looking forward to all of the changes and challenges the next year will bring, and I know that I have a strong team of directors, staff and members that will be with us every step of the way.
